wptom mcp (AI assistants)
npx -y wptom mcpAI coding assistants are much better at changing your site when they don’t have to guess.
wptom mcp is an MCP server: a small helper your assistant
starts by itself and asks questions while it works. It is read-only: it never changes your
files.
What your assistant can do with it
Section titled “What your assistant can do with it”| Tool | What it gives the assistant |
|---|---|
get_project_info |
Which template, version and variant your site was created from, whether a newer version is out (and that npx wptom update brings it), your @wptom/* packages, and the files that matter (AGENTS.md, the content model, the brand) |
list_components |
Every component in your project with what it does and its props |
get_component |
One component’s full documentation: what it does, every prop with its type and description, where the file is and how to use it |
search_docs |
Searches these docs (docs.wptom.com) |
get_doc |
Reads one docs page in full |
list_templates |
The template catalog, and which templates your license includes |
Components are read from your project, so the answers match your version, including
components you’ve added or changed (document their props with comments and the assistant
sees those too). It also tells the assistant to read AGENTS.md first.
Ask it things like “Add a testimonials section to the pricing page”, “Is my template up to date?” or “How do I connect Stripe?”: it looks up the components, your version and the docs before it answers or edits.
Add it to your assistant
Section titled “Add it to your assistant”You need Node.js; nothing else to install. The server runs in the folder your assistant has open, so open your site’s folder.
Cursor
Section titled “Cursor”One click: Install in Cursor on wptom.com, or add it under
Cursor Settings → MCP → Add new MCP server with command npx and arguments -y wptom mcp.
Or put this in .cursor/mcp.json in your project:
{ "mcpServers": { "wptom": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "wptom", "mcp"] } } }VS Code
Section titled “VS Code”One click: VS Code in the install menu on wptom.com. Or create
.vscode/mcp.json in your project:
{ "servers": { "wptom": { "type": "stdio", "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "wptom", "mcp"] } } }Claude Code
Section titled “Claude Code”claude mcp add wptom -- npx -y wptom mcpcodex mcp add wptom -- npx -y wptom mcpOpenCode
Section titled “OpenCode”In opencode.json:
{ "mcp": { "wptom": { "type": "local", "command": ["npx", "-y", "wptom", "mcp"] } } }JetBrains IDEs (PhpStorm, WebStorm, IntelliJ IDEA…)
Section titled “JetBrains IDEs (PhpStorm, WebStorm, IntelliJ IDEA…)”Copy the configuration with JetBrains IDEs in the install menu on wptom.com, or use this:
{ "mcpServers": { "wptom": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "wptom", "mcp"] } } }AI Assistant (the chat in your IDE):
- Open Settings (Ctrl Alt S, on macOS ⌘ ,) → Tools → AI Assistant → Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Click Add, choose STDIO, and paste the JSON above.
- Set the working directory to your site’s folder (or leave it on the project), click OK and Apply.
Junie (JetBrains’ coding agent): Settings → Tools → Junie → MCP Settings → Add, then
paste the JSON into the mcp.json that opens. Or put it in .junie/mcp/mcp.json at the root
of your project, so everyone on the project gets it.
MCP support arrived in recent versions of AI Assistant and Junie; if you don’t see these settings, update the IDE and the plugin.
Any other MCP client
Section titled “Any other MCP client”Start npx -y wptom mcp as a stdio server. Its tools are listed with descriptions and input
schemas; all of them are read-only.
Check it works
Section titled “Check it works”Ask your assistant: “Use the WPTom tools: which template and version is this project?” It
should call get_project_info and answer with your template and version. In Cursor and VS Code
you can also see the server and its six tools in the MCP settings.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Privacy: it reads your project’s
package.json,.wptom/meta.jsonandsrc/components/on your computer, and fetches only docs.wptom.com/docs.json and the template catalog from app.wptom.com. Nothing about your project is sent anywhere. - Login: not needed. If this computer is logged in (
wptom login),list_templatesshows which PRO templates your license includes. - Several projects: the tools take an optional
directory, so one assistant session can ask about another site. - Always current:
npx -y wptom mcpruns the latest CLI each time the assistant starts it.
