Make it yours

A WPTom template has three layers you can change, from “no code at all” to “it’s your code now”. Most sites only ever need the first two. The examples on these pages use Handy; every template follows the same pattern, and where one differs, the page says so.

What you want to change Where Code?
Texts, photos, prices, posts, services, the order of home page sections The content editor (Keystatic, Sanity or EmDash) No
Name, contact details, navigation, footer links, the picture for social previews Site settings in the content editor No
Button labels, form messages, emails, chat and 404 game texts Interface texts in the content editor No
Colors, fonts, corners src/content/singletons/brand.json (Brand in Keystatic) No
Languages src/i18n/locales.json plus the translated content No
The map of your area (templates with a map) map.config.json, then npm run map -- fetch No
A new field, a new section type, a new page, the logo, the layout src/ Yes

Every word on the site comes from the content, including button labels, error messages and emails. Edit it in the content editor while npm run dev runs (/keystatic), or in the files under src/content/ directly: they are the same thing. Start with Your first site and Content and CMS.

One small file holds your colors, fonts and corners. Every other color on the site (both themes, buttons, links, borders) is worked out from it and checked for contrast. Colors, fonts and logo.

The templates are plain Astro projects: everything is in your folder and yours to change. wptom update still brings in new template versions and keeps your edits.

Replace the demo business, its photos and its legal pages, set your site’s address, and check the build: Before you launch.
